Gummies are a unique candy composed of gelatin, sweeteners, flavorings and colorings, which are found in the food industry. Likewise, homemade gummies and their realization will be understood in a simpler way. These soft candies contain glucose or fructose syrup, sugar and gelatin, this last ingredient is the one that gives the soft and spongy consistency of the gummies. Its creator was a German named Hans Riegel, in 1920, he started selling hard and colorless candies, when he saw low sales, he created a soft candy with fruit flavor and made of grenetin, what we know today as gummies.
Many times we buy sweets without knowing how they are prepared and how they taste so delicious.
In 1920, German Hans Riegel opened his own candy company, which he named Haribo. He began by selling colorless hard candies that he made at home; however, sales were poor, so he decided to experiment.
Shortly thereafter, he created a soft fruit-flavored candy made of grenetin, what we know today as gummies. Inspired by the bears at the big fashion shows, Riegel decided to give this candy the shape of a dancing bear, which he named Gummibärchen.
These soft candies contain glucose or fructose syrup, sugar and gelatine, the latter ingredient giving the gummies their soft and spongy consistency.
To know the preparation and homemade ingredients of gummies.
I really like gummies such as panditas and I would like to know how to prepare them and what ingredients are used to make them at home.
If we put sugar, water and fruit in a baking dish, then mix them together and finally put them on a tray and cool them, we can make homemade gumdrops.
German Haribo states that its gummy bears have ingredients that vary from region to region, but in general they contain fruit juice from fruit concentrate (apple, strawberry, raspberry, orange, lemon, pineapple), as well as plant concentrates, safflower, spirulina, apple, elderberry, orange, blackcurrant, kiwi, lemon, chokeberry, mango, passion fruit, grape.
Also, glucose syrup, sugar, gelatin, dextrose, flavoring, elderberry extract and coating agent: white and yellow beeswax, carnauba wax.
For the Panditas version, the base ingredients are similar: grenetin, added sugars (corn syrup and sugar), colorants (red 40, yellow 5, blue 1 and yellow 6) and artificial flavoring (strawberry, lemon, pineapple and orange), also corn syrup and carnauba wax.
Experimental.
Materials:
– 20 g unflavored gelatin.
– 90 gr of flavored gelatin to taste
– 200 g granulated sugar
– 250 ml of water
– Sugar for coating
1. The first step to make our homemade gummies will be to dissolve the unflavored gelatin in water. to do this, place the water in saucepan and heat over low heat until dissolved.
2. Once the unflavored gelatin is dissolved, add the sugar and stir with a spoon to dissolve it completely.
3. Then, add the gelatin of the taste you have chosen and dissolve it.
4. Continue stirring the mixture with the spoon to avoid lumps, it is important that all the ingredients are well dissolved.
5. Then continue cooking over medium heat for about 3 minutes until it comes to a boil.
6. Then pour all the gelatin mixture into a mold of your choice greased with a few drops of oil. Let stand until the mixture cools down to room temperature.
7. Once cooled, set aside in the refrigerator until the gelatin finishes setting and solidifies.
8. After this time, remove the mold from the refrigerator and with the help of a knife remove the slices.
9. To form the sugared gummies, we only have to cut the sheet using pastry cutters with the shapes we like the most.
10. Finally, cover the gummies with sugar. To do this, dip the pieces of gelatin in a bowl with sugar until they are well coated on top and bottom.}
At the end of the experimental process we were able to prove part of the hypothesis proposed at the beginning, resulting in delicious gummies of different flavors.
We concluded with the realization of this experiment, we learned the easiest way to make homemade gummies, we proved that anyone can prepare them and that they can taste delicious.
